We are first and second year medical students at the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry with an interest in global health awareness and education. We organize the Hungry for Change gala yearly to fund scholarships that help medical students travel to resource-poor regions for clinical health electives. Applications are carefully reviewed and only granted to those students who demonstrate enthusiasm about bringing their experiences home and improving global health education at the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry. Schulich students realize that global health is local health, and involvement in global health electives is just one of the many ways that Schulich students are involved in the community. This is why the gala also hopes to gather awareness and support for other non-profit global health initiatives. The chosen charities to support for the 2018 gala are Rotholme Women’s and Family Shelter and Ecojustice. For more information about these charities please visit their websites at https://missionservices.ca/shelter-programs/rotholme-womens-family-shelter/ and https://www.ecojustice.ca/.
